The Peak to Peak Escarpment Challenge was an outstanding success on many levels. Over 300 hikers and volunteers enjoyed a wonderful day on the Escarpment. Hikers of all ages chose their challenge by hiking routes that ranged from 3 km to 26 km; they enjoyed spectacular vistas over Georgian Bay, the Pretty River Valley and the Nottawasaga Valley; they hiked through trillium covered forests, explored caves and undoubtedly learned something new about the importance of the Niagara Escarpment from the specialists stationed along the trail.

Geologist Daryl Cowell was one of our specialists stationed along the trail.
Due to the tremendous support of volunteers, hikers were treated to a pre-hike breakfast and refreshment stations along the way. Following the hike, hikers were rewarded with a post hike barbeque celebration, featuring local musicians and held at a beautiful century farm on the Duntroon highlands.
Hiking the Niagara Escarpment was made possible by the Bruce Trail Conservancy and the local Blue Mountain Bruce Trail Club whose members have spent countless volunteer hours developing and maintaining the trail, Canada’s oldest and longest footpath.
Through the generosity of our donors, many hikers went home with fabulous draw prizes or silent auction items. Our grand prize, an all expense paid trip for two to Fogo Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, was donated by the Shorefast Foundation. Shorefast’s Tony Cobb participated in the event and was on hand to present the prize to Sheila Gallagher. Tony spoke about the similarities between the Niagara Escarpment and Fogo Island as special places that serve to connect man with nature and culture, special places that need to be protected.

Tony Cobb of Newfoundland's Shorefast Foundation congratulates Sheila Gallagher, winner of our grand prize, a trip for two to the five-star Fogo Island Inn.
The Clearview Community Coalition (CCC) would like to thank the hikers and the volunteers and all those who sponsored them in support of CCC’s and Environmental Defence’s work to protect the Escarpment.
We would like to thank the many donors who generously supported the Peak to Peak Escarpment Challenge by making in-kind donations or by donating advertising, prizes and silent auction items. Our list of donors is right here.
